Inspect Your Tires’ Air Pressure

Check Your Tires’ Air Pressure

It is very important to keep recommended Inspect tire pressure. Here are the procedures to maintain proper tire pressure:

  • Take a tire gauge. It can be a stick gauge, a dial gauge or a digital gauge.
  • Remove the valve stem cap from the valve stem attached to the wheel.
  • Connect the gauge with the valve stem to know the pressure reading. Adjust the gauge correctly so that there is no air leak.
  • Look for the pressure reading. After getting the result, compare it with the recommendations given by the automaker.
  • If the pressure is low, then use an air compressor to inflate the tire.
  • If the pressure is too high, then let air come out.

You should check the air pressure of all four tires once a month at least.

Inspect Tire Tread Depth

Tire depth is a major thing to focus on while inspecting your tires. Here are the steps which you can follow to check for tire depth:

  • Get a tire tread depth gauge. This product is very cheap to buy.
  • Push the plunger of the gauge down.
  • Then push the plunger against the tire’s tread.
  • Now look for the measurements. The gauge should have both imperial and metric values.
  • If the tread depth is 6/32 inches or higher, then you are good to go. But if the measurement is lower than 6/32 inches or 1/16 inches then the tires should be replaced.

  • First, look at the place of tire tread. If there are minor cracks, then there is nothing to be worried about. However, if there are wider cracks, then it may be dangerous. So, it is recommended to change the tires which have wider cracks.
  • Look at the sidewall for cracks. You can find minor cracks here also. However, if the cracks are wider, then the tire should be replaced.
